            Abstract :
This paper investigates the effectiveness of uninterruptible power supplies for providing protection against power surges to the load they serve-a group of interconnected personal computers (PCs). The surges simulated include the most common ones: surges due to lightning and capacitor switching, and fast transients due to operation of nearby end-use devices. Test results indicate that the protection depends very much on the type of the UPS
