Abstract :
The paper undertakes a discussion of the process of restructuring towards a competitive electricity market which is divested to some degree from the facilities of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT). A model proposed to the government of Thailand by a consulting consortium and an alternative model proposed by the authors are both outlined. The authors´ model offers key new options and elaborates alternative points of view for restructuring in developing nations, especially in Asia. This model is sensitive to many fundamental background differences. The case for an independent national transmission entity model is argued, and an investment strategy to achieve national transmission expansion is presented
