Presents contributions of new methods for diagnostic X-ray shielding design which has been recently introduced in order to revise the NCRP 49 recommendations. The developed method uses information regarding spectral distributions of radiation scattered by a phantom to allow the determination of ambient dose equivalents in X-ray rooms
