Abstract :
This study investigates the applicability of a smart card network expected to interconnect health care service providers. In this paper, the current development of the proposed network and its infrastructure are highlighted. The goal of this project is to benefit healthcare service providers as well as patients. A private network is being implemented to which insurance companies and healthcare service providers are connected. A central database stores electronic administrative profiles for contracted providers, as well as electronic medical records for individual insurance company customers. The smart card is used by insurance company customers as a key to the network and also as their personal portable emergency medical record
