Abstract
Summary form only given. Coherent control is an all-optical process that allows for generation and optical phase control of electrical currents in a semiconductor on a femtosecond time scale. Here we report the direct observation of currents generated in a semiconductor by phase-related 120 fs pulses. This is done by sampling the near-field THz emission via electrooptic sampling. We observe the surge associated with current injection, and its evolution due to an interplay between momentum relaxation and electron hole interaction.
