Abstract :
This paper presents a handoff model for multimedia users in an wireless mobile network. Our emphasis in the performance evaluation is the factor of mobility with taking into account the speed status of a user. The performance results in terms of handoff blocking probability and channel blocking for different classes of calls are presented. Handoffs with mobility consideration including the alternation of states prior to reaching a cell boundary, the speed of mobile terminal, and the distance between a mobile terminal and a cell boundary are modeled. For instance, the level for requesting a handoff in a noise-limited area is -80 dBm in which situation a vehicle reaches the cell boundary or there is a signal obstruction within the cell site. Selected numerical results of the performance analysis and the probability of requiring a handoff are presented
