Abstract :
The throughput performance of a CDMA packet radio network using adaptive processing gain and forward error correction (FEC) coding is analyzed. The processing gain and/or FEC coding rate of the signal is adaptively controlled based on the number of active users in the network. Network throughput performance as a function of offered load is presented for a number of different coding schemes and it is shown that the use of adaptation can significantly improve the throughput performance under all loading conditions. The trade-off between spreading gain and FEC coding is studied and a channel monitoring algorithm is presented
