Abstract :
The paper investigates the selection of the electromagnetic modes of a dielectric sphere in a compound multilayer resonator of optical frequencies. The waveguide properties of the spherical stack are investigated for systems of optical layers with arbitrary ratio between layer thickness and wavelength. The appropriate matrix formalism is developed. Both the reflection coefficient and the impedance of the stack are calculated. Depending on the number of layers, it is possible to decrease sharply the impedance of the system. It is shown that increasing the number of layers in the stack considerably increases the quality of oscillations. We offer to use such systems in optical communication systems for processing of signals
