Abstract
The technique consisting of the statement and the solution of the appropriate synthesis problems for investigation of the directivity properties of antennas is described. The amplitude radiation pattern is considered as the directivity characteristic of the antenna. The synthesis problem is formulated in the variational statement and consists in optimization of functional, which characterizes the proximity of the obtained (synthesized) and required (prescribed) amplitude radiation patterns. This optimization can be carried out by two methods. The algorithms are proposed and the examples of computer-aided modeling of the radiation pattern of a cylindrical array are presented
