Abstract :
The development of computer technology and software methodologies enable multiple protection functions to be integrated into a common multifunction protection platform which provides great advantages for the analysis and design of transmission and generation protection systems. This paper presents an effective approach for building a generic multifunction relay in an object-oriented environment. In this environment, the classes and objects that constitute the generic relays are designed and their interactions described. A sample power system with and without a FACTS device is studied to test this approach
