Abstract
With the arrival of deregulation, the traditional vertically integrated power systems are faced with some challenging uncertainties. Many uncertainties concern the control, operation and protection of distribution systems in a competitive electric market especially with the introduction of deregulation. This paper presents the problems in fault diagnosis of high impedance faults (HIF) in deregulated distribution systems and a proposed solution based on artificial neutral networks (ANN)
