Abstract :
A novel distributed power generation system that includes a variable speed engine, a generator with an almost proportional output power to the input and a power conversion system (PCS) is presented as a cogeneration system of medium capacity application for the purpose of energy saving control with the advantage of connection to a power distribution line. The widespread utilization of general internal combustion engines, such as diesel engines and rotary engines, allows generators for utility use to be configured with constant speed rotating machines. A high-efficiency cogeneration system can be constructed by driving the permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMG) and the directly connected engine at variable speed. The characteristics of the proposed generator and the experimental results of a test module of the system are provided to validate the proposed configuration and the control method
