Abstract :
This paper presents the results of an empirical study of research and development in the semiconductor industry, The study aims to better understand the relationship between R&D investments and firm´s performance in a turbulent competitive environment. Following an original approach that involves the use of an appropriate time order among variables considered, differences in R&D performance and effects to firms´ performance are shown. To explain these differences a series of insights are proposed
