  • Abstract
An electro-optical analog-to-digital converter principle, based on a tunable laser and diffractive optics, is described and analyzed. The performance of this device is investigated in comparison with an (electronic) parallel analog-to-digital architecture and it is shown that this scheme circumvents the scaling laws of electronic parallel converters, by virtue of the passive nature of the translation from wavelength to a binary word
