Abstract
The theoretical basis for the linear analysis of multirate Σ-Δ modulators is presented. Polyphase decomposition is used to analyze the system and derive its transfer functions. Multiple quantization noise sources are introduced to make the polyphase decomposition possible. It is shown that a proper value for the quantizer gain in a linear analysis is essential because a unity gain approximation leads to unstable transfer functions while the real system is stable
