Abstract :
Location services (LCS) are gaining increasing commercial interest in the mobile communications industry, with exponential growth predicted for the next decade. The capability of finding the accurate position of a mobile phone is one of the features that will help third generation (3G) systems in reaching a wide success triggering a high number of innovative interactive applications. This paper gives an overview of algorithms for positioning a mobile phone using 3GPP-FDD mode signals. The OTDOA-IPDL mechanism is detailed, and implemented in a typical simulation scenario. The performance of the system is evaluated in different environments, showing the severe effects of multipath over the radio link
