Abstract
The performance characteristics of the Enhanced General Packet Radio Service (EGPRS) with the focus on radio network dimensioning for the mobile Internet access are presented. The impact of the new modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) and the related link quality control (LQC) functions defined in the EGPRS specifications on the overall system performance and the quality of service (QoS) for the non-real-time Internet applications, WWW and electronic mail is examined. To achieve this, simulation results for EGPRS performance and system measures for different load situations are produced with the simulation tool GPRSim that models the traffic behaviour of an EGPRS network
