A modified remote authentication method with smartcards and check digits

Authenticating a password helps communicating securely on internet and electronic commerce technology. Recently Awasthi et al. [8] has discussed a method to authenticate a user with the help of check digits and reports it more efficient than the schemes [2-7]. The Awasthi et al. method is not resistant to the privileged insider attack. In this paper, we propose a solution to overcome different attacks. Our scheme has facility for mutual authentication and password change.
