Abstract :
We show that system performance depends critically on the level of in-line dispersion compensation in 40/spl times/10-Gb/s WDM transmission. 110% and 90% per-span dispersion compensation yield similar high performance, however, 100% per-span dispersion compensation leads to a severe penalty.
