Abstract :
In this paper, we demonstrate, for the first time, transmission of 3.08 Tb/s (77/spl times/42.7 Gb/s) over 1200 km fiber with 100 km spans by employing dual C- and L-band distributed Raman amplification, experimental low dispersion slope TrueWave/sup (R)/ fiber, and forward error correction. The 3.08 Tb/s is comprised of forty 100 GHz spaced WDM channels in the C-band and thirty-seven 100 GHz spaced WDM channels in the L-band. Error free transmission of all 77 channels is achieved. Furthermore, low dispersion slope fiber and matched dispersion-compensating fiber (DCF) alleviate the need for any per-channel post-compensation in the C-band.
