Abstract
The current capacity and bandwidth of the existing wireless communication systems are insufficient to meet the needs of future mobile requirements. In anticipation of this, 3rd generation wireless system, such as UMTS or IMT2000, are currently being developed. It is expected that future mobile devices will be required to inter-operate seamlessly in any mobile environment and must be 2nd and 3rd generation compatible. Unfortunately, existing mobile antennas are not capable of satisfying these operation criteria. In this paper, works at the University of Birmingham on new and innovative mobile antennas in three type of wireless environments related to these mobile wireless communication systems are discussed
