Abstract :
Performance of L-band cladding-pumped erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) is numerically analyzed. It is shown, that cladding-pumping reduces build-up of short-wavelength gain and ASE power. Amplifier noise and efficiency performance can be optimized based on proper cladding area choice.
