  • Abstract
The multicasting available bit rate (ABR) service in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is important for supporting many industrial applications such as data broadcasting. In this paper, a new consolidation algorithm for efficient multicast in ABR services of ATM networks is proposed. A consolidation algorithm is necessary to avoid feedback implosion and to aggregate feedback information from backward resource management (BRM) cells. However, the consolidation of BRM cells at each branch point may cause two major conflicting problems: consolidation noise and consolidation delay. We develop an adaptive consolidation algorithm based on a dynamic threshold to provide a faster transient response with lower consolidation noises
