            Abstract :
Development of effective displays and data reduction strategies for cyber defense is an essential yet poorly understood science. On the other hand, there is a considerable body of cognitive engineering expertise that has been successfully applied in other real-time, operational environments. We discuss our experience in applying this cognitive engineering approach to cyber defense display problems. We describe the steps involved in designing a meaningful experiment for quantitative comparison of competing cyber defense displays, propose an experiment methodology, discuss our progress to date, and conclude with the work planned for the future
