Abstract :
In this paper, an efficient heuristic genetic algorithm (GA), considering the domain-specific characteristics of manufacturing cell design, was developed to model the cell formation (CF) problems. Its performance was compared with an optimization model and the traditional GA approach. Our study confirmed that considering domain-specific characteristics in the crossover and mutation operators could obtain very promising results
