Abstract
Satellite communications using packetised systems is becoming popular. Transmitting information packets via these satellite channels with varying noise conditions requires some form of reliability which may be provided using either error correction or retransmission techniques. This aim of this paper is to present a novel forward error correction (FEC) scheme. The scheme uses an exclusive-OR (XOR) coding technique to generate the redundancy. Its attraction is the ability to adjust the rate of coding according to the varying condition of the link. The proposed scheme can be implemented at the transport and the data link layer to enhance satellite communication services
