Abstract :
Dimensional inaccuracies in machining are directly related to poor fixturing design. This paper introduces a mathematical model for drilling through deformable workpieces. The mathematical formulation is structured as a constrained optimization problem the solution of which defines fixture parameters that result in desired hole characteristics. An example of a fixture that results in minimum and maximum accumulated geometric deviations between the nominal and calculated hole surfaces demonstrates the effectiveness acid capabilities of the presented mathematical formulation
