Abstract
The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), responsible for the standardization of the 3rd generation mobile networks, has selected the session initiation protocol (SIP) as the call control protocol and IPv6 as the only network protocol for 3G IP-based wireless networks. Since the existence of IPv4 is predicted to be very long even if Internet starts to switch to IPv6 very soon, it is assumed that sessions between IPv4 only SIP clients and IPv6 only 3G mobile terminals will be needed. Complex translation mechanisms are needed to perform the interworking, this paper shows a complete end-to-end solution for such a mechanism and its performance compared to other implemented translation mechanisms
