Abstract :
Reactive templated grain growth (RTGG) was used to obtain [001] fiber-textured (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-(x)PbTiO3 (x=0.3-0.35). The RTGG process involved the use of <001>-oriented BaTiO3 and SrTiO3 template particles in a fine grained precursor PMN-32PT matrix during tape casting. A high degree of texture coupled with high density was observed in the samples prepared from a matrix composed of uncalcined PMN-32PT precursor. Unipolar strain measurements on textured ceramics indicated considerably higher strain levels (~0.25-0.3%) and d33 values (~1000-1400 pC/N) than untextured samples. Well saturated hysteresis loops associated with a Pr of 27 μC/cm2 were obtained on these samples
