Abstract
Power system components are subject to deterioration that increases the probability of failures and outages. Consequently, the cost of operating the system increases with time. The operating costs can again be reduced by maintaining the system. However, the maintenance costs must be weighted against the benefits of fewer failures and outages. This paper focuses on risk management as a tool for cost minimization by means of condition-based maintenance strategies
