Abstract
Interest has peaked in a technology that has come to be known as wide-band code division multiple access (WCDMA). Multi-user detection has been hailed as one of the key enabling technologies for this system and has been recommended for use in 3G standards. In this paper we evaluate the performance of a hybrid interference cancellation (HIC) technique that combines the advantages of both the successive interference canceller (SIC) and the parallel interference canceller (PIC). The performance of the HIC for both hard and soft decision strategies is evaluated in a single-path flat fading channel and found to produce substantial improvements in performance over the conventional detector. The sensitivity of the detector to channel estimation errors is also evaluated
