Abstract
This paper investigates RF beamforming techniques for improving downlink performance by applying a two-element array at the mobile terminal. A new channel estimation method suitable for RF beamforming is proposed, and further applied to the systems with combined transmit diversity and RF beamforming receive diversity. Computer simulations have shown that with the new channel estimation method, RF beamforming receive diversity techniques can improve the BER performance considerably, especially for fast fading environments
