Abstract
A theoretical framework is introduced for analyzing the performance of maximum likelihood detection (MLD) in a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) wireless system with two-dimensional signal constellations (such as QAM and PSK). The framework includes an explicit tight upper bound with an asymptotic form for the probability of symbol error rate (SER), impact of channel estimation accuracy on the performance, investigation of diversity order, and performance comparison among two-dimensional constellation systems
