Abstract :
We present a simple diagonal-layered space-time coding scheme for Bell-Labs layered space-time (BLAST) architecture that uses block forward error correction coding (FEC) and a diagonal layering space-time interleaver. The proposed diagonal inter-substream coding also facilitates the use of an iterative parallel soft-interference cancellation receiver for decoding the simultaneously transmitted data. The paper includes a simple development of the proposed algorithm and an illustration of its properties using simulation results. In particular, we show that by using the proposed simplified D-BLAST (diagonal-BLAST) architecture and iterative receiver, a power gain of about 6 dB can be achieved over traditional sequential detection schemes
