Abstract
The decentralized supervisory control problem of discrete event systems with local specifications is studied. A necessary and sufficient condition is obtained for the existence of modular supervisors for ensuring that a group of local specifications is achieved by the controlled system. For illustration an example of a simple manufacturing system is given. The paper provides a modular approach for the design of supervisors for large systems
