Abstract
The technological progress that has been achieved in the interests of quantum electronics has made it possible to synthesize crystals of sapphire, ruby, and fluorite, as well as quartz, having extremely small numbers of structural defects. This makes it possible to investigate their dielectric losses in the millimeter wave band and to estimate the relative efficiency of the absorption mechanisms. The realization of this opportunity is interlinked, first of all, to research of an effective method of measuring extremely low dielectric losses in crystals in a millimeter wave band at low temperatures
