Abstract
A new type of tracing system with liquid crystal spatial light modulator (SLM) is proposed to steer the light dynamically. The positions information of the spatial objects is obtained from the image captured by a video tracking system. According to the information the SLM can control the beams directions and focus the energy on the objects with the phase-only modulation method. The Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm is adopted as the optimal algorithm to approaching the objects. Results show that the response time of steering is less than 50 milliseconds and the angle errors less than 0.032deg. Such a tracing system will be of value in the fields of multi-object tracing, laser guiding and multi-object defense
