  • Abstract
This paper is a systematic theoretical study on the formation and development of urban spatial structure (USS) and New Towns. A dynamic simulation model of urban spatial structure evolution is presented in this paper. The model is characterized in terms of New Towns´ endogenous, besides this, urban spatial evolution dynamics depends on the form of the urban market potential, which is described by the behaviors of urban consumers and producers. Both New Towns´ growth and decline are related with the location benefits. Furthermore, through sensitivity analysis of key parameters on numerical simulation platform, the paper realizes the USS evolution and New Towns´ development simulation from a bottom-up view. The results gotten through the modeling-simulation approach provide us with technical support to optimize the policy and institutional arrangements to achieve optimization management in the process of New Towns´ development and urban planning.
