Abstract
This article proposes an eHealth Business Model for emerging countries which identifies Health Institutes that can accommodate eConsultation Centres and eClinics to provide specialised healthcare consultations in rural areas. In Sri Lanka; due to the high concentration of specialized medical consultants in urban areas, patients amongst rural communities travel great distances to receive specialized consultations from District Hospitals and above. This article demonstrates a Business Model which can provide a uniform service of specialized healthcare services via Information Technology (IT) in Sri Lanka. It investigates the concerns involved in implementing an eHealth solution as well as the sustainability and the replicability of such a solution in an emerging region. This Business Model focuses on four main aspects namely; Technology, Economics, Legislations and Anthropology.
