Abstract :
Transmission and/or distribution systems are needed to transport electrical power from its generation site to the user locations. This paper reviews major DC power transmission technologies, concentrating on systems that are capable of long-distance transmission. Special attention is paid to lifetime models and the safe use of DC insulation systems. A relationship between the probability of failure and the volume of stressed insulation (the volume effect) is discussed briefly.
