Global optical communications industry showed progress in all segments from access to core networks in 2013. Although fiber-based broadband access network deployments were slower than expected with service provider attention focused on recent developments and new technologies for copper- based broadband access, we witnessed steady developments in next generation optical access (NGOA) standards and field trials.
