Abstract :
Many engineers who have just completed their academic studies find it difficult to make the transition from the university campus to an industrial environment. The transition affects each differently based, not on their academic knowledge, but on personal qualities related communication skills, attitude, level of aggressiveness and confidence, self-awareness, and other personal factors that determine the ability to work collegially with colleagues. This has become doubly important since industry operates in the global community. So, how can a young engineer minimize the frustrations in making that transition? Here are six suggestions to help you develop a positive attitude and reflect on the attitude of successful and respectable colleagues: 1) Become Proactive, 2) Understand the Organization´s Culture, 3) Identify a Mentor, 4) Exercise Respect, 5) Understand Yourself, and 6) Focus on results.
