Abstract
The current article is aimed at implementing and validating software procedures by investigating the flying effects on pilots, algorithms that receive data from physiological data acquisition equipment and provide information on how the pilots´ body reacts and adapts to various conditions of stress during flight. In particular, our concern was to implement some predictive real-time evaluation criteria with the view to achieving real-time conclusions regarding the pilots´ health in real professional situations. The main goal of this study was to test the validity of the Normalized Short Time Partial Directed Coherence method (NSTPDC) under scrutiny and see whether it can be used to contrastively analyze the dynamic behavior of cardiovascular signal couplings in pilots during flight training sessions and relaxation sessions. Coupling dynamics changes were only observed in pilots during training sessions as opposed to relaxation sessions where no changes applied. This topic pertains to the signal-processing field, although the findings we obtained can be safely employed in aeronautical medicine.
