Abstract :
This paper describes the methodology implemented for the estimation of integrated water vapor (IPWV) over the land, by the use of brightness temperature measurements of the microwave radiometer (MWR) provided from the Argentinian Satellite SACD-Aquarius. Using a linear regression model, estimations of IPWV were obtained with an error less than 7 mm over the North American region. Superficial meteorological data were used, as well as ground radiosonde stations, which allow to obtain the IPWV and temperature data necessary for the adjustment of the proposed model. This results can be compared with others satellital instruments such as the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) of the NASA, through which IPWV data can be obtained with errors that vary from 6 to 12 mm. This work represents an important contribution, allowing the use of the radiometer data of the SACD/Aquarius, to provide measurements of the IPWV over land, data that is not actually available for this instrument.
