Abstract :
In order to develop the field test process, the use of ultrasonic guided waves to detect corrosion defects of steel tower was systematic studied experimentally through the design and production of analogy contrast block, the study of facet reflection guided wave propagation in the attenuation characteristics of steel, the study with different thickness steel tower detection probe selection, and the study the different types of defects quantitative precision positioning. Then using the actual sample test results validates the proposed testing process. The results was showed that ultrasonic guided waves testing techniques was effective to the corrosion inspection, especially in the underground. The technology may detect the corrosion pit which thickness was not more than twenty percent of wall thickness (the minimum depth of the corrosion pit was 2mm).
