Abstract :
In the course of the running of the cable, insulation defect which produced in the manufacture or installation of power cable joint easily causes partial discharge(PD). The cumulative effect of PD is one of the main causes of cable fault. According to the common insulation defect in 10kV cable joint, we studied on the mechanism of PD and the PD characteristics. We clarified the mechanism of PD from the point of the change of electric field strength caused by insulation defect through simulating. We studied on the characteristics of PD through manual simulation of cable insulation defect PD test in laboratory. The study has certainly guiding the preparation, installation, structural optimization and operation management of cable joints.
