Abstract :
Industrial Ethernet provides a flexible, responsive system that incorporates both real-time data from control and production areas. This networking architecture provides connectivity, collaboration, and integration from the device level right through and including the enterprise business systems. Industrial Ethernet applies the IP suite of standards developed for data communication to manufacturing control networks. To deploy this technology, forest product industry engineers must now be familiar with some of the important concepts behind Industrial Ethernet. This paper will present a general overview of the most important ethernet technologies required to install and configure industrial systems, how Industrial Ethernet varies from traditional, proprietary, factory-floor networks and how this high-performance, scalable architecture can add additional business value making it an attractive choice for forest product industry businesses.
