Abstract
In this paper wind farm cooperated load frequency control to damp load frequency fluctuations in multi-area power system is proposed and investigated. Multi-area power system consists of three types of conventional power plants (hydro, thermal and nuclear) and two variable speed wind turbine (PMSG and DFIG) based wind farms. Primary Load Frequency Control (PLFC) system is considered to be embedded on the PMSG control system. The PLFC is based on the control of the kinetic energy stored in rotational mass of the wind turbine and it can be achieved by controlling power output reference of the PMSG, hence the frequency fluctuations on each area and power fluctuation on tie line can be decreased. The simulation results show that the proposed PLFC has significant contribution to damping of the frequency and the tie line power under steady state with varying wind speed.
