Abstract

An initial stage of Polish semiconductor microelectronics research activities has been reviewed from the Author´s perspective. In the paper, the Authors reviews activities of leading Polish R&D groups starting from Department of Electronics of Polish Academy of Sciences till foundation of the Instytut Technologii Elektronowej. The paper reviews following historical phases: Jan Czochralski´s discovery of a method for solid state monocrystal growth, which has enabled the micro- and nanoelectronics revolution, development of the first germanium point-contact transistors, subsequent development of the first Polish transistor radio receivers and signal amplifiers and then development of l-h junction based devices for various circuit applications.
