Abstract
In order to solve the constraints imposed by traditional out-of-step control technology, the author´s research group developed a wide-area out-of-step control system. In this paper, wide area monitoring method for out-of-step based on WAMS is provided. An on-line identification method for machine power swing based on Prony and clustering algorithm is studied. Based on intrinsic characteristic of power system, a method of predicting out-of-step is provided, as well as control strategy. The paper describes the structure of the wide area control system, analyzes the requirement for time delay. The testing system based on real-time simulation technology is introduced. The faults in Sichuan power systems are simulated to test the system, The results proves that the system can locate and predict out-of-step interface accurately, and islanding control can restore power system to steady state. The furthermore deployment of the wide area out-of-step technology will enhance the third-defense-system in power systems.
